1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?
My business name is So Write Designs and it is a collaboration that includes food styling and photography but also hand lettering. Growing up attending catholic schools, penmanship, specifically cursive was a requirement. I have always had a knack for beautiful handwriting and I have mastered it to a service I can provide a client, giving them options for personalization via a unique craft. Food styling and photography happened by chance. I was hired as a freelancer by a marketing company and clients were provided to me. My desire to become more creative with images and source myself out directly resulted in me starting my own business.
2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?
My biggest win has been the interaction and feedback from both clients and potential clients. I have a small group that I am constantly in touch with and I am always checking in with them. They have such positive things to say not only about my work but about me! I am always lost for words when others say kind things about me.
3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?
My motivation can come from anywhere, my own kitchen, places I visit or even from some who visit me. An odd word can easily become a beautiful hand lettered piece but I can also style and photograph something as simple as a basil leaf.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?
The best piece of advice I ever received was years ago. My grandmother told me to never be selfish and never try to impress others. She said I can’t just look out for my own interests, I have to look out for the interests of others too. This has stayed with me personally and professionally.
5. What is your morning routine?
I am a morning person. I walk my dog before 4AM, then shower and dress before I head out to be at work by 5AM. I drink my coffee at my desk, usually with a piece of fruit, and read scripture before diving into my day.
6. What is your favorite podcast?
I don’t listen to them often but lately Being Boss and The Broad Experience
7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:
That I’m allergic to cilantro.
8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?
I would tell myself.....don’t do this without good marketing materials
