Dames Collective Chapter: Orange County

Owner of Love and Lace Bridal

1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?

I opened Love and Lace Bridal in Irvine 5 years ago, and our second location in LA last summer. We cater to the non-traditional bride that wants a wedding dress that is reflective of her unique personality! We love it when a bride comes in and finds something that is totally “her” and breathes a sigh of relief that we understand her and her vision for her wedding!

2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?

My biggest win was being able to have my husband join our team and leave his full time job to be fully involved in our business. When we first opened the salon five years ago, being able to do that was such a distant and impossible dream, yet this year it became a reality. It is so fulfilling and special to be able to grow our businesses together and also spend more time together as a family.

3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?

Honestly, its from other salon owners across the country and the world. I am friends with a lot of amazing women that own bridal salons and it is a constant source of strength to be able to share this crazy industry together. It is such a comfort to know that I can call them for advice, to vent, to celebrate and just to share our experiences together. There is nothing stronger and more beautiful than community, and I am blessed to be part of this one!

4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?

About a year after I opened my first store, another owner told me “You can’t make every bride happy, so stop trying. Be everything for your particular bride, so that way when she walks into your store, she feels like she has come home”. That resonated with me then and every day ever since. In this culture of trying to please everyone, it is rare but so special, to focus on one particular niche and just be satisfied with my little corner of the industry.

5. What is your morning routine?

I wake up at 6am, usually with my 2-year old boy snuggled next to me (he sneaks into our bed early in the morning and it is heaven!). After getting myself, him and his sister ready for school, my husband and I drop them off at school and daycare. We then workout together, which is so cool to be able to that as a couple! I then get ready for work and am at the salon by 11am. It is one of the perks of being an owner to be able to create my own morning routine and not be worried about clocking in somewhere.

6. What is your favorite podcast?

Besides our own podcast (The Gown and Beyond, shameless plug!), I love true crime podcasts. I love “Last Podcast on the Left” and also the “Cold” podcast (the story of the Susan Powell case!.

7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:

I am constantly trying to come up with new ideas to try or new businesses to open. It drives my husband nuts, he is all about security and budgets and not taking risks. I am the opposite, and would take risks weekly/monthly in business! We are a great balance, thankfully!

8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?

Don’t be scared to stay true to yourself and what you believe. You are stronger than you know, and you can weather the storms of business just fine.
