1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?
Clutch & Curl Sophisticate Haircare provides beauty services to local working women, entrepreneurial education courses for beauty professionals and off-site beauty concierge services for special events. We specialize in hair restoration treatments and healthy protective styling services such as silk press blow-outs, hair extensions and custom wig units. With respect to our clients’ on-the-go lifestyles, we never double-book appointments. We provide an individualized salon experience for each client with a focus on professionalism, quality and overall comfort.
2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?
My biggest win as an entrepreneur has been opening my first brick and mortar location five years ago. I didn’t have any money saved for this venture nor an investor. I relied heavily on my faith, negotiation skills and ability to execute.
3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?
I lean into God heavily through your the course of my day for clarity and guidance. I pray, meditate, journal and speak affirmations over my life daily. I surround myself with like-minded individuals that share similar passions, ambitions and mindset aspirations. I listen to a mix of smooth jazz, neo-soul and hip-hop music to enlighten my mood.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?
The best piece of advice I have received was to use what I have already to scale my business and get to the next level. In the past I invested in classes, workshops and webinars to teach me business tips and tricks when the real tip was to put action into what I already know while adding tidbits of information as I go. No amount of information will overcome my willingness to actually do the work. This advice came from Ebony Swank, Owner of Swank-a-Posh Boutiques.
5. What is your morning routine?
I wake up with a thankful heart for the blessing of waking up to live another day. Like I literally utter “Thank you Jesus” as I lift myself out of bed. I read a daily women’s devotional and reflect on how I can use the lesson to prepare my mind for the day. Then I spend the next 20 minutes running to wash my face, brush my teeth, shower and get dressed. Lol
6. What is your favorite podcast?
7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:
I have a constant struggle with fear of success, the more I achieve the more anxiety I feel.
8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?
Have more patience in waiting for what you want as oppose to starting a mediocre company without any real direction. It’s okay to “do it scared” just be sure it’s exactly what you want. There’s no logic in taking risks while settling. Be intentional and have a plan and a backup plan.
