Soulful Spaces

1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?

The name of my business is Soulful Spaces. I'm a landscape designer and I love working with my clients to create outdoor environments they'll actually use and enjoy. I'm particularly interested in maximizing the use of small yards and creating outdoor rooms; even for areas like balconies and courtyards. I also love working with young families to make their yards child-friendly. I specialize in designing spaces with an indoor/outdoor flow and use drought tolerant plants. One of the cool things about my business is the 3D program I use that shows clients what their space will actually look like and I can help them choose materials, styles and the best placement for individual elements. Here are a couple of links to pages on my website that show examples of the program.

2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?

Tough question. Perhaps it's how I've proven to myself repeatedly that I am actually capable of doing things I didn't think were possible and how that has transferred over into so many areas of my life.

3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?

I meditate each morning, listen to something positive while I'm getting ready, listen to podcasts while I'm driving and spend as much time in nature as possible. Physical movement seems to keep my energy flowing to allow new ideas to come in. I also find lots of inspiration from characters in novels.

4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?

Good grief, that's tough! There have been different pieces of advice that have gotten me through different sections of the journey so I can't choose just one. I feel like I've always received the messages I needed to hear to help get me to the next level.  I try to stay open and expose myself to people who are living their lives in a way I respect because there is a lot to learn from observing and seeing what I'd like to incorporate into my life.

5. What is your morning routine?

I meditate as soon as I wake up and then listen to something positive while I'm getting ready. I like to take a walk or do some yoga but it doesn't always happen first thing although I feel way better if I do.

6. Favorite podcast?

Right now I'm pretty obsessed with Being Boss. I also like Snap Judgement, Gravy, Marie Forleo, Fresh Air and 2 Dope Queens.

7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:

I grew up on a working farm in a small community of Eastern North Carolina called Gum Neck.

8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?

You have a lot to offer that is valuable to people. Don't be afraid to be seen and share what you can do. Try to stay calm during the low points and know that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for.
