1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?
I am in a state of transition, so no business (YET!) but I am an aspiring fashion stylist and plus size model operating on instagram for the time being (@jonnellebird). I love pulling together eclectic, edgy & retro design elements (fashion & interior), while breaking “traditional fashion rules”, especially as a plus size lady! I also love curating experiences through event planning and hosting. I am in process of figuring out what’s next for me and how to translate my passion in to a business - the Dames Collective is already a huge source of inspiration in my journey with so many AMAZING ladies! Here is to seeing what comes next!
2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?
When I reflect on my biggest win as a person, I am always proud of how I authentically bring myself to everything I do and how I have inspired others to do the same. I want everyone to feel the best they can inside & out and anything I can do to be a part of that, makes my heart burst with happiness! Additionally, I have always been an advocate for gender equality & diversity and have enjoyed driving change by bringing awareness, building community and driving for policy evolution in my workplaces.
3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?
Coffee? Lol. My husband & cats. The people & content I surround myself with. Meditation. Going to spaces and places that have a certain energy and life to them; Detroit and the people here emit this so brightly & that is one of the many reasons I live here!
4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?
My mind keeps drawing a blank on thee best piece of advice. There are so many who have influenced me by word and action. “Be yourself, unapologetically, always” (from multiple sources over the years). “Work hard, play hard” (from my dad, lol!).
5. What is your morning routine?
On an ideal morning I start with lemon water, yoga and meditation. In reality, most days I roll out of bed, get ready and start on email / work. I am working on changing the ideal to the norm!! :)
6. What is your favorite podcast?
Armchair Expert & My Favorite Murder
7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:
My family owns a farm equipment dealership (40 years strong); I love telling people this because I am a eccentric, city living lady but my roots come from the country. It is nice to have the perspective and best aspects from both.
8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?
Nothing to go back to, per se. What I keep telling myself right now though, as I consider starting a business, is that I have a unique perspective and it is worth sharing with the world!
