1. What is the name of your business and can you tell us a little bit more about it?
I'm a Marketing Manager for an automotive company by day, and a blogger by night (or whenever I get some free time!). I've always been a creative person that enjoys writing and photography, and I'm fortunate that my career allows me to do both of those things often. However, I had this urge to create content around topics that have a personal meaning to me. In January 2019 I launched my blog, Lifestyles of a Basic Millennial. The intent of my blog is to be an open, honest and authentic voice in the travel and lifestyle space. My goal is to share both the good and the bad in the hopes that I can inspire others along the way because I believe the basics are what unite us as human beings. The more we share, the more we can relate to one another.
2. What has been your biggest win as an entrepreneur thus far?
Although I am not an entrepreneur, I have found that my biggest win since starting my blog has been connecting with others. I discuss some tough topics on my blog and I've been able to connect with other women who have gone through or are going through a similar experience in life. It's refreshing to be able to relate to others and also to provide a platform of support and encouragement.
3. Where do you find daily motivation and inspiration?
I find my daily motivation and inspiration in my Mom's legacy. She passed away recently after a tough battle with breast cancer. She was a career-driven and all around bad a** boss babe. So when the cancer started to take all of that away from her I was determined to live my life with intention and gratitude in her honor. Even though she is no longer with me in person, I channel her strength and energy every single day to be the best I can be. Through her experience with cancer, I've learned to be thankful for all of the ups and downs that come with life.
4. What is the best piece of advice you have received and who was it from?
The best piece of advice I've ever received was also from my Mom. Whenever I would come to her with a challenge or problem that felt overwhelming at the time, she'd say "You've already conquered all of the challenges you've faced in life thus far". It's simple but so profound.
5. What is your morning routine?
I love getting up and moving my body first thing in the morning. On a typical day, I go to an early group fitness class, get ready for work and then drink my favorite coffee protein shake in the car on the way to work while I listen to music and get pumped for the day ahead.
6. What is your favorite podcast?
I prefer to listen to music when I am trying to zone out and focus. Some of my favorite bands are St. Lucia, Sylvan Esso, and Glass Animals.
7. Something that most people wouldn’t know about you:
I am an open book, so this one is hard for me! Super random, but I still have one of my baby teeth. :)
8. If you could go back to when you started your company what would you say to yourself?
If I could go back and tell my younger self anything, it would be to not doubt yourself so much. For a really long time, I resisted putting myself out there to be vulnerable or take risks because I was scared of rejection and failure, but that is how you grow. Some of the most rewarding aspects of my life have come from putting myself out there and I wish I would have started doing it sooner.
