Passing the Baton - NEW San Diego Main Dames

So, it is ACTUALLY happening. Brittney and I are passing along the baton to two INCREDIBLE babes to run the San Diego chapter. You see, we knew that this day would eventually come but didn’t know how it work or who we would find to take over. As you can assume, we are so sensitive when it comes to this chapter. This is where it all started. This is where the idea started, where Brittney and I filed our LLC and opened our first bank account.. ya know, big girl things! With the launching of new chapters across the country, we realized that we wouldn’t be able to dedicate all of ourselves or even give the amount of attention we would need to the community while focusing on growth and expansion.

So, without further adieu, please meet Morgan King and Taylor Whipp!

1.     Where are you from originally?

Cumberland, WI – a small town in northern Wisconsin, a population of about 2,000 people and no stoplights 😊

2.     What brought you to San Diego?

Wanted to live in the greatest city in the world 😊, and to be closer to my sister and nieces.

3.     How old are you?

I’ll be 32 on 9/1!

4.     What is one random thing that people say to you often?

Are you related to Larry King? Super, super random.

5.     What is your passion?

Helping others, in any way I can. Whether it’s through my business, Dames Collective, the non-profits I support or just a random act of kindness.

6.     What made you want to get into real estate?

Real estate runs deep in my family history, and I felt there was a big opportunity to introduce a more modern approach to the industry and the way things are done. With my 10 years working in corporate marketing for beauty brands, I could apply my experience to do just that. I also really enjoy working with people one-on-one, and it is incredibly rewarding to support them through such a significant life purchase.

7.     What made you want to lead the Dames Collective San Diego chapter?

The chance to learn from other brilliant entrepreneurial women. Also, I love being a part of something that inspires and supports strong, likeminded individuals to push themselves to create an extraordinary life.

8.     Do you have any hidden talents?

I’ve been painting my nails every 4 days or so since I was about 12 years old and have not had polish on them only a handful of times since then. Because of this, I can do a professional manicure on myself in about 20 minutes 😊 and it lasts at least 4 days without chipping.

9.     What woman do you think is SO badass and killing it right now?

Carrie Green, the founder of the Female Entrepreneur Association. The online community she has built is full of inspiring articles and videos. I’m also currently reading her book, ‘She Means Business’ and it is bomb.

10.    What is something that most people don’t know about you?

a. At my old corporate job, I accidentally emailed our Chief Technical Officer to pickup my mail from the mail room … TWICE! It was so embarrassing, but his name was very similar to one of the mailroom assistants. My friends still tease me about it today.

b. I was at a country music festival and Kenny Chesney and Dierks Bentley pulled me up on stage and gave me the guitar they used for the performance, signed. All of my friends were in the audience (which was awesome) and I had to get a police escort back to my camp site.

c. My mom lived in Orlando when I was little, so once when I was visiting her, we saw a tour bus and being the obsessed N’SYNC fan that I was, I suggested we creep to see if they were inside. Sure enough, it was their bus. My mom ran up to Lance Bass (the only one there) and forced him to come over and say hi to me, and sign the only thing we had in the car – an old blue folder.

11.     What is your morning routine?

Oh boy, I’m really big on morning routines and I’m kinda proud of mine and the fact that I have been able to stick with it for about 4 months consistently now. I do this almost every day. I wake up at 6:30am, drink a big glass of lemon water, take my vitamins, read my 21 affirmations while I brew my delicious cup of Nespresso (total game changer), read my statement of attitude, write 5 things I’m grateful for in my gratitude journal, create a mantra for the day, and finally run three miles to the ocean and back while listening to a motivational podcast or audible book.

1.     Where are you from originally? What brought you to San Diego?

I’m from Indiana! A whirlwind romance with my now husband! He is stationed here and it was about 90% of the reason I married him

2.     How old are you?

3.     What is one random thing that people say to you often?

“What can’t you do?”

4.     What is your passion?

Creating anything with an artistic flair! Clothing, websites, a killer meal... you name it and I love it.

5.     How did you learn to knit clothes?

I taught myself when I was 14. I learned how to sew first and then that progressed into me learning different disciplines within the apparel/ fashion industry.

6.     What made you want to lead the Dames Collective San Diego chapter?

The sense of community I felt that Dames brought into my life was so important to my personal and professional growth, and I wanted to share that with other female entrepreneurs or those aspiring to be.

8.     What woman do you think is SO badass and killing it right now?

I honestly really look up to Melanie from Graffiti Beach.  I love working with her and the brands that she has created.  Both businesses have a great community presence and aesthetic and have found a their niche in the San Diego creative community.

9.     What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I LOVE to read fantasy novels (its a guilty pleasure).

10.     What is your morning routine?

It’s been really influx lately: I try to start out by having a cup of coffee and a few minutes to mentally prepare for my day in quiet. I have kids, so getting a few moments to myself to find my center and calm is really important before the day is in full swing. I follow that up with answering emails, social platform planning/ maintenance, and creating or updating my daily to-do list. Then I hit the ground running!
